My mom has always had a great love for pelicans. I would consider this her personal animal totem. I painted this ATC card for her – it’s watercolor, ink and color pen.

If an animal (or bird or insect etc) has made a frequent appearance in your life, consider the characteristics of the animal. For example, despite the size if the pelican, they are light and buoyant. They are unsinkable! They rise to the top no matter what.

My mom always rises to the top no matter what life throws at her.

Pelicans share their nesting sites and food with others and engage in teamwork while fishing – so they are also a symbol of self sacrifice and unselfishness. If you find yourself needing to rise above life’s trials, consider thinking on the characteristics of the mighty pelican.
