Photo books

You can publish your own book quick and easy now. There are lots of websites out there that let you upload vacation or wedding photos or whatever you like – and they will turn it into a hard cover nice little book for you! I think this new invention is so cool. Yeah, I design book covers and interior and help authors self publish. But this new technology makes it easy for those that want a nice bound book, without hiring a designer or buying some minimum purchase of 1000 books!

Memory Escape had an introductory sale on the small 5″ square, 20 page book. Normally $9.99, it was free just pay shipping. So I ordered 2 and designed a book filled with my favorite “Skyjules” photos. (UPDATE: looks like they raised the price $3 since I made mine.)

On these photo book sites they tell you exactly what to do and how to do it using your high resolution photos. They have template pages with designs and places to type descriptions. You can use that or do what I did and upload a jpg image with my photo and text already on it. I did this on the inside front page because I wanted a black background with white text. So I made a 5″ square black background and typed with white type then exported it as a jpg. Because many of my images weren’t square, there would be some background showing. So I just put the image on a black background and exported that way. Here are a few of the pages.

Photo book sites to check out:

Memoryescape.com - photo books, calendars, cards

Shutterfly.com - a popular site, they also do prints, posters, cards and more

Lulu.com – photo books, calendars, cookbooks and other services such as selling your ebook. They even have an occasional webinars on subjects such as marketing and ebooks.
