Photo Retouching
So you didn’t hire a professional photographer for those photos for your website and now that you look at the photos they are washed out and the sky is white. So it’s just your website, right? Doesn’t matter right? Wrong. Your image is everything. Everything you put out there on the web, in print, social networking sites…anything may be the first time a potential customer “meets” you. If it looks like your teenager shot your photo with his cell phone, what kind of impression will that give? All is not lost. There are some things that can be done to make that photo work. Yes, even with the cell phone photos! Especially for web use. (Use in printing is different – requires much higher resolution – See my post about resolution here soon.) I can add clouds, remove signs, sharpen the photo, change the colors. Make it look sharp and powerful.
Working with portraits there is a huge variety of retouching that can be accomplished – even when you have professional photos. Want to look like you’re standing in front of the Eiffel Tower – it can happen. Change clothing colors, remove backgrounds, remove blemishes and wrinkles. The sky’s the limit – have an idea or wonder if something can be done? Call me and let’s brainstorm. Retouching fees depend on the final resolution needed and complexity of project.
Here are some samples of simple retouching.
A Simple retouch of “before and after” photos for a Landscape Designers website. Jenscapes (I also designed her website). These are photos the client took herself. I only provided the retouching service.

Here are some samples of Complex retouching.
A client, a Houston Fashion Designer, sent me photos from one of her photo shoots. She decided that she didn’t like what the makeup artist did on the model and asked me to “fix” it. Here is a close up before and one after the retouching. This was for magazine print, so finer details needed to be accomplished. See more of her incredible gowns at JolieToi.com (I also designed the website).

Softening and slight color change of make up and other retouching
Here are some examples of other simple photo editing – adding backgrounds for ads. The photographer shot the models against a white seamless backdrop which makes dropping out the background more successful.

The first 2 are ads I designed for Vogue and the third at the left was a design the client didn’t use but shows a good example of the variety of techniques available for photo editing for backgrounds on advertisments for print and web.
