Winter Wear

Sometimes you get to laugh at yourself.
I was home working, not planning to get out in the cold.
But my brother needed to drop something off on his way home from work so I offered to meet him between here and there so he wouldn’t have to drive so far. He was almost where we planned to meet so I threw on my big fluffy red fleece wrap I made a while back. I grabbed a scarf on the way out, also handmade. Slipped on my shoes and ran out the door. Yes the temp was below freezing but I wasn’t going to be out in the weather, so the wrap would have to suffice.

We met, talked, then parted. On the way home I thought I should stop at the store for a few things, maybe something warm for dinner. I started to pull in and something made me aware of what I was wearing. Then I had to laugh. I had a long sleeve turquoise teeshirt over a long sleeved white teeshirt. I had that big fluffy red fleece wrap, I’d made complete with fringe and it’s covered in little silver snowflakes. The scarf I grabbed was sort of a reject, mistake scarf. I made it from black crushed velvet and tan organic cotton jersey and the two just wouldn’t sew together straight – so it’s all warped and wiggley. But it was handy and pretty darn warm. My pants were my black fleece warm-comfy-big-baggy-don’t-go-out-in-public pants, which of course being soft fuzzy fleece, attract every bit of cat hair in the house. Then the shoes I slipped on are my old worn out Birkenstocks, but my favorite shoes. And to top it all off I had on some very fluffy, fuzzy, bright purple socks that I wear as warm slippers at home. I was lovely. The wind blown hair didn’t even factor into this equation.

Do you ever pass those little kids in public with a wild, mismatched outfit and smile knowing that the mom was cool and let the kid dress herself? Adorable huh?
